Weingut Franz Hirtzberger

Description

Wine has been grown here for five generations on a farm dating back to the 13th century. Today with contemporary facilities, but still as committed to tradition, the Wachau and the family as ever. The Hirtzberger winery is a precious architectural rarity in itself: the Lesehof dates back to the 13th century, making it one of the oldest wineries in the Wachau still in operation today. Franz Hirtzberger's brilliant wines in particular enjoy an international reputation. Elegant, rich in extract and full of finesse, it is not only Rieslings and Grüne Veltliners that top the international white wine charts year after year. The estate's famous wines, such as Honivogl, Singerriedel, Rotes Tor and Hochrain, grow on primary rock soils on south-facing slopes. The vineyards offer the best conditions for the exceptionally high quality of the entire range of wines. Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Neuburger and Muscat complete the range. As the former chairman of the area protection association "Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus", Franz Hirtzberger (who received the Vineus Award for his life's work in 2016) was also largely responsible for the development and implementation of successful Wachau quality wine strategies.
