Hiking tour Starting from Weiten, Gewerbebaum
Our almost six-kilometre hike through the "Valley of Sundials" is a tribute to the politician Dr. Jörg Mauthe. Quotes from his books - selected by well-known personalities from the worlds of art, culture and politics - accompany our route. At the magnificent fortified church of St. Stephanus with its valuable Gothic stained glass windows, we hike up the Hausberg to the Zehentfeld, a high meadow with a view of the Mollenburg; we follow the Hausbergstraße through meadows and forests and encounter the partially renovated Mollenburg, later cross the Hausbergbach stream and return to Weiten via a wonderful meadow path to the Prangerplatz and the "Dr. Jörg Mauthe Millennium Sundial". The hiking trail is uniformly signposted with yellow signs throughout.

From the Gewerbebaum, we turn left, cross the bridge, and continue straight ahead, passing Hans-Lager-Platzl (with a drinking fountain). At Café Gasthof Fam. Fischl, we turn right toward “Wehrkirche Hl. Stephanus.” Just before reaching it, we turn left onto a narrow lane, which we leave again to the right in front of “Haus Luisenheim.” Here, a small path winds its way up the local mountain in switchbacks, featuring a few benches that serve as “quote stations.” At the top, we reach the peaceful Zehentfeld clearing, where we can take in the magnificent natural surroundings. We hike along a meadow path until we turn right at the edge of the forest, past a landmark tree. Here, we follow a forest road with a large right-hand bend (Hausbergstraße) to Mollenburg—the former residence of Jörg Mauthe. At the next intersection, we continue straight ahead downhill. At the next fork, we continue straight ahead. We now hike parallel to the Hausbergbach stream, which winds its way down to the right, and cross it as the path curves to the right. The trail then climbs again along the edge of the forest, and we follow the forest road to its end. Once we reach the paved road, we turn right and head downhill. After about 200 meters, in a left-hand curve, we turn right downhill onto a beautiful meadow path that takes us past the soccer field and returns to the paved road just before the municipal maintenance yard. Before reaching Weitenbach, we turn left and, after about 20 meters, immediately turn right again, then follow the B216 for a short distance past the gas station. After passing the Sparkasse, we follow a small road to the right, which after 20 meters turns left toward Prangerplatz (333 m) with the Roland Column and the “Dr. Jörg Mauthe Millennium Sundial.” From there, we head right along the B216 back to the Gewerbebaum.

Take the A1 to Melk, then the B3 to Weitenegg; there, turn right onto the B216 toward Leiben/Pöggstall and continue to Weiten.
Buses on Route 790 run Monday through Friday. (Timetable 790)
On weekends, the Jauerlinger on-demand bus operates. It connects the Jauerlinger Nature Park communities (Aggsbach, Emmersdorf, Maria Laach, Mühldorf, Raxendorf, Spitz, and Weiten). The on-demand bus must be requested by phone at 0810/810278.
