Jauerling

Description

The Jauerling is a popular excursion destination. At 960 meters, it is the highest elevation and the local mountain of the Wachau. There is a transmitter and a lookout point on the mountain, offering a unique panoramic view from the Danube valley over the Dunkelsteinerwald forest to the Alps.

Hiking on the Jauerling

Well-signposted hiking trails, the WelterbesteigWachau - WachauWorld Heritage Trail and the Jauerling-Wachau Nature Park invite you to go hiking.

One of the numerous tours up and around the Jauerling is the Jauerling summit tour. The starting point is at the Naturparkhaus parking lot. The trail includes 10 different stations.

Winter on the Jauerling

In winter, the Jauerling invites you to enjoy winter sports as well as great winter walks, as the small ski area JAUerling ski lift with floodlights is located on the eastern slope of the Jauerling.

A public road also leads up the mountain, making it easy to reach by car or motorcycle. There are plenty of parking spaces available.

Tips in the surrounding area

  • The 38-metre-high Jauerling Warte at 960 meters, one of the highest points on the entire course of the Danube.
  • The Hans Pichler-Naturparkhaus hiking destination on the Jauerling at 915 meters offers one of the most beautiful viewpoints along the Danube and treats you to regional dishes.
