Description
The modern shipping museum in Erlahof Castle provides information about the history of shipping.
You can find out about the history of shipping in the modern shipping museum in Erlahof Castle. The shipping museum offers you a large selection of original objects from the heyday of wooden shipping and rafting. Shipping on the Danube existed long before our era. For the Romans, the Danube was a border river against the peoples to the north; in the Middle Ages, the Bavarian-Austrian Danube region was the center of east-west trade. Before the introduction of steamboats around the middle of the 19th century, ships and rafts were built exclusively from wood. The precisely built models are presented in modern glass showcases in the old vaulted rooms.
Audio and video stations are also available to provide visitors with information on Danube navigation.
