Description
The holiday resort Emmersdorf offers the perfect starting point for bike trips into the Wachau and the nearby Waldviertel, as well as upriver along the Danube to Grein. In Luberegg, in the old riverbank area, there are two stone round towers. In old times, they served as lighthouse and signal towers for shipping and illuminated the wood stacking and loading site built around 1780 at the raft landing as fire towers. Swimming, sailing, rowing, and surfing are possible on the Danube Lake in Weitenegg at the foot of the ruin.

Route description Cycling for kids - The Danube is a lake
The route starts at the station in Emmersdorf. From here you cycle leisurely upstream along the Danube, without having to overcome any climbs. Stunning views open up to the opposite Melk Abbey as well as to the large white Danube ships. Along the way, you pass Luberegg, the longest natural sandy beach on the Danube. All water lovers and swimming enthusiasts will find optimal conditions here if the weather is good. After a few kilometers, the ruin of Weitenegg can already be seen from afar, and you reach the Weitenegg Recreation Center.
The recreation center offers a beautiful, child- and family-friendly bathing beach! There is a buffet with toilets and changing rooms, showers, pedal boat rental, an aqua jump, surfing opportunities, a playground, and a beach volleyball court.
