Nature Park Schools

As many as five nature park schools!

Indispensable partners in environmental education

Thanks to the award of the secondary school in Spitz, there are now five nature park schools in the Jauerling-Wachau Nature Park since autumn 2020! The secondary school in Emmersdorf, the primary school in Spitz and the primary school in Mühldorf nature park schools have been allowed to call themselves nature park schools since 2019 and the primary school Maria Laach even since 2017. This award stands for the schools’ close connection to nature and the nature park. All five schools thereby signalise that they are committed to permanently integrating the topics of nature conservation, biodiversity, and sustainability in connection with the nature park and beyond into their teaching plans.

The nature park schools are dedicating themselves to the topic of the nature park in the long term. They integrate nature park-related teaching content into their existing curricula, building on the 4 pillars of protection, recreation, education, and regional development. Especially during project days and excursions into nature, the pupils are able to get to know and appreciate the nature park with all their senses.

Many exciting projects have already been implemented. On Biodiversity Day action day, they were part of thousands of pupils who set an example throughout Austria on International Biodiversity Day. The schools are also involved in the Jauerlinger Saftladen project and have a multitude of ideas for new projects.
